In 2020, SADC began its pilot program, Future Professionals of Aroostook, with the goal to mentor students in an effort to prepare them for the professional workforce. SADC conducted a survey of local businesses to identify consistent issues they were facing with their current candidate pool. The survey identified 5 areas of improvement that will guide the curriculum.
After meeting with area schools, it was determined that students as young as 8th and 9th grade would benefit most from this mentorship program. It was also clear that an effort would also need to be made to educate not only the students but the teachers and parents alike about the variety of career opportunities available right here at home.
